After February 24th there was no choice but to reflect upon the long history of Russian authoritarian ruling and the suffering it brought to the people inside and beyond the country’s borders. Officers censor and beat protestors, Boris Godunov is walking in through the exact same golden doors that the Russian president uses during his inauguration. A large paper scroll is the centre piece of the set, a continuous road of history linking past and present. Surrounding the set is a large backlit curved map of Russia. We split it into pieces, suggesting a country that is breaking apart as a result of violence and inevitable internal conflicts.
